Are you a caring person who is interested in supporting children’s learning and development?

If so, this two-year course; level 3 technical qualification ensures students gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress into skilled employment in a nursery, pre-school, or primary school as well as many other areas within the early years and education sector, or alternatively higher-level technical training or study in the education sector.

There are various study methods on this course including classroom sessions, independent study and practical work. Lessons are interactive, teachers support students to participate in group work, discussions and independent study.
Students will attend college 3 days per week and will be in placement 2 days per week (this is a full-time course Mon-Fri)

5 GCSE’s (grade 4 and above) including Maths and English

Course Content

During this course students will complete:

Year 1:

The Core Component - Elements 1-12;
Wider Context,
Child Development,
Supporting Education,
Safeguarding,
Health and Safety and Well-being,
Behaviour,
Observation and assessment,
Equality and Diversity,
SEND,
EAL,
Parents,
Families and Carers,
Working with others,
Reflective Practice, plus 4 core skills.

Year 2:
Occupational Specialism Early Years Educator,
performance outcomes 1-5;
Support and promote children’s play,
Development and early education,
Develop relationships with children to facilitate their development,
Plan, provide and review care,play and educational opportunities to enable children to progress,
Safeguard and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children,
Work in partnership with colleagues, parents, carers and other professionals to support children’s development, these are knowledge and skills units.

Assessment

This course is continually assessed throughout the two years, students will produce a portfolio of evidence, there are two written examinations (paper A & paper B) and an Employer Set Project (ESP) a supervised project devised and set by NCFE. Students will be marked on all of these and marks will be aggregated to create one grade for the core component.

Assessors from college will visit students and assess them in the work place.

Progression

On successful completion of this course students can progress into various rewarding Early Years, Childcare and Education roles, in the statutory, voluntary and private sector such as:
• EYP in a day nursery or pre-school
• EYP in a nursery school or reception class in a primary school
• Becoming a nanny
• Working on a cruise ship as a childcare worker
• Working abroad as a childcare worker rep for a travel company

Students are also able to progress on to;
• A higher or degree level apprenticeships
• Higher level technical study including higher education.
